It was indeed a great race. Trail run is great and tiring, road obstacles were everywhere. The Mt. bike race was also great. Imagine a single track winding, muddy road where you have to struggle to get ahead of others……Interesting….

Guns and Garmins

June 11, 2009 by runner45

It was wednesday, June 10, 2009. It was supposedly my practice day at the firing range in preparation for the August AustralAsia Competition. But i changed plans and gave this time to my bike buddies who wanted to experience shooting. I send the day off for  my bike buddies to go  for a gun clinic at our home range. My bike buddies longed for this event. I told them i will be holding a gun clinic and coaching first time for FREE for them so everybody really looked forward to this day.

At 9am we met up at Paseo De Sta Rosa and headed to the firing range. I also invited the fellow current revolver king of the PPSA revolver division of the Philippine team to introduce to them.  I remembered it right, it was more than 4 years ago that i am inviting Erwin (revolver king) to join me run or at least bike but havent joined me. This time i am bringing with me my biker/runner buddies to persuade him bike if not run with us.

We arrived at the range at 0930H and immediately started the gun safety seminar for them followed by the basic gun handling, stance, target acquisition, dry firing and finally the one on one live firing.

Intervals: WW24 Hill Training at Cardiac Hill

June 11, 2009 by runner45

From the lesson I learned after running the Botak Baguio run that I needed hill training. I set schedule for myself to hit the Cardiac Hill for the hill training. I allocated the whole week from June 8 to 12 to do the hill training.

Last monday was not a good start of the week  for me as I woke up on the other side of the bed.  I woke up with a little cough and colds  and because office issues started to ruin the peacefullness of my sunday evening that boils down till the whole of monday. The whole of monday is a rainy one. My biker buddies (Zaldy , Mark aka Knightrunner , and Ed ) and I agreed to meet up at the top of the cardiac hill at 1630H for hill training. They will do hill training on their bikes while i do my running training. Rain or shine we will go…..

Below are few pictures we had at the hill….. JUNE 8, 2009.

Mizuno Infinity Run

June 10, 2009 by runner45

I was supposed to set a new PR for 10K at this run. My last 10K race mode was last year and this would be my 2nd 10K race for the year only. I have enjoyed running longer distances since 2009. BongZ sms me and asked me if I can run and pace a newbie runner running this race. Since the rest of the days of the past two weeks was really a non runner friendly weather, lots of rains day in and day out, no runs for two weeks after the Baguio run and too busy with work, I immediately agreed to him. At least this run can be a chillax one for me this time but with target time set for the newbie.  Rhods target finish time is 1:05 for the 10KM.

As the gun fired for the 10KM run, we started moving at a pace slower than what I intend to maintain for our run for the first 1KM. After which I stepped a little on the gas as we ascended the Kalayaan flyover. I was observing Rhods how she tackled the uphill flyover and she was doing fine so from time to time I sped up and she was catching up with the pace which was good.  She told me that she wanted to take some water and intended to grasp one at the second water station before the turn around. So as we approached the second water station, we slowed down and there she grasped a cup of water then we proceeded accelerating afterwards.  There came the turnaround point as i checked the time, we were way up  our target as we covered the first half in 29:11 mins (I was actually eyeing to push her to flat 1:00 if she will be capable) . I told her that we will maintain our pace at 6:15 to 6:30 for the recovery for the preparation of the uphill kalayaan flyover. I told Rhods that we will push a bit at the uphill part most likely at 6:00 to 6:05 pace.  She again told me that she’ll be grasping a drink before the uphill so there we slowed down again. Here comes the uphill part now. I was observing Rhods as I sped up the flyover, she’s catching up with me so from time to time I am looking at my side or behind to check her up and good thing she was pushing well to catch up with the pace. I continued with the pace and when i looked back I found her almost  5om away from me so I slowed down and waited for her.  When she catched up with me, I asked her if she can still push after a short recovery, but she told me she can no longer pushed and she’s a bit grasping for her breath. From this point I decided to maintain the pace at 6:20. After some time almost near the last intersection, I told her that we should accelerate on the last 2KM to catch up with the losses we had but she told me she can no longer speed up. Thats fine with me, so I did a speed up slow down strategy that she was able to catch up. When we crossed the finish line, it was 1:02 on my watch and she was very happy for that accomplishement. She aimed  a 1:05 and yet she was pushed to a 1:02.  Great accomplishment for both of us.

June 9, 2009 by runner45

Late posting too busy……Id rather spend my remaining times running than writing….Running addict? hahahahhaa

Well, it was a very memorable and exciting times with the Takbo.ph peeps when we joined the BOTAK RUN in Baguio. It was a great bonding time with the team and a great race route especially the 3KM uphill…..

There was one thing I have learned from this race. I need hill training…….Honestly in my running years I never had any hills included in my training runs  except those hills that race routes includes.  Let me just share you the pictures we had there. The race and happenings as well……

CARDIAC HILL- Mountainbikers Spot- Soon to be conquered by TAKBO.PH

June 5, 2009 by runner45

I’m doing this post for the takbo.ph peeps. The Cardiac Hill which is a favorite Mountain biker spot in Sta.Rosa, Laguna is the next target of the TAKBO.PH team for the next South LSD.

The route if we are to start from my place and back would be around 40 to 42KM. The first 10km would be flat and slowly going uphill towards the foot of the cardiac hill.

Friends, this route is a mixed road and trail route (dirt road). So be ready of what type of shoes you need to wear during this LSD. No need to worry as there are bike stops ahead that offers fresh buko and gatorades.

The schedule might be on July for this as im a bit tied up the whole month of June. I’ll be coordinating with Pojie on the schedule of this LSD. I hope a lot would come…..

I have posted a few pictures below….

Mendez Cavite-Sta.Rosa-Binan LSD

June 5, 2009 by runner45

Men, I was really tied up the last few weeks up to now that I really had to slide down posting and joining the takbo peeps at the Shoutbox. From time to time I still check who were those ONLINE at SB and just comment a few then bid goodbye…

Well, let me write shortly about the subject matter mentioned above. The Mendez Cavite – Sta. Rosa – Binan LSD with the team Takbo.ph.

The South LSD was placed into the drawing board right after the Greenfield city run (April 19) when we had our first get together at our place right after the run.  The team was looking forward to have a run again at the South area and have my place as the end point of the run. Well right after the Greenfield run, a new topic was already posted in the thread about the South LSD which is to kick of at the month of May. Of course, it was no other than our Mr. Hoff POJIE who organized this LSD. ( Cheers to you sir). With the great help of our Speedy Doctor Eric, we were able to have a place where we could have as our starting point which was at Mendez Cavite.

Rodel , Sam, Mhel , Rod, Dr. Topher , and Gab waiting at Caltex Stn Sta. Rosa 3am

As arranged, Dr. Topher coming from Meycauayan Bulacan would be picking me up at 3AM at my place. He was on time and we went to meet the other runners at the Caltex station in Sta rosa – tagaytay road to wait for the rest who were brave enough to start at Mendez Cavite. We took several pix before Dr. Eric came up to fetch us up.

The teams were divided into several groups. Group 1 starting from Mendez Cavite (KM 0), those at the pix above were all from group 1. Group 2 would start from Tagaytay rotonda and thats Jinoe and Gerry. Group 3 were those running from Paseo going to PNPA in silang, and joining the Groups 1&2 to Paseo and Binan. Group 4 will be running from Paseo to Adventist university,  and will be waiting for the big group going to Binan. Group 5 will be starting off from paseo.

As usual, a pack of runners have different running paces and thresholds. And because of the late start of 5am, we have decided to break down the Group 1 into several groups again as you will notice in the succeeding photos. Others prefered to run a bit faster than others.

At this point when all the groups were settled. Most preferred to take their cars going to my place because the sun is really scourging hot. Of course the ADDICTS continued running from Paseo to Verdana Mamplasan. It was Jerry, Me, Raymond, Pojie from Group 1 and Queenie and Carly from Groups 4 and 5 respectively braved the 11am sun from Paseo to Binan Laguna. :)

Conquered: Cardiac Hill and Coffee Trails of Silang thru Mt. Bike

May 4, 2009 by runner45

It was last March when I conquered the Cardiac Hill thru running. It was called Cardiac hill by the mountain bikers because it was so steep that the elevation read out thru my garmin when I run it was 472m. The Cardiac hill is 38Km from my place back and forth.

April 30, thursday when my good friend Zaldy sms me to join him on May 1 at 630am to bike the trails of Silang Cavite particulary the Cardiac hill and the coffee trails. I was then so excited as this would be my first time to bike that route which I have heard a hundred times from the moutainbikers I knew.

The whole day of April 30 was raining and Zaldy told me that if the sun shows up on May 1 then we are pushing thru with the bike ride. I was expecting that the trails will really be so muddy because of the non stop raining and I prepared myself for that ride. I had a short sleep maybe because of excitement. I woke up at my usual waking time of 4am and did my 10km run. At 6am I was ready for the bike ride and waiting for Zaldy to pick me up.

We started from Paseo De Sta Rosa, two other friends of Zaldy (now already my friends) came up, they were Ed Libao and Mark Salvador who were Zaldy’s constant biking buddies. At exactly 714am we started cranking our pedals off to the route….

Along the road of Brgy. Inchikan, Silang Cavite, I chanced up on a group of runners and we exchanged hi and hello’s. After covering a distance of 6+ km of gradual uphill climb, we made a quick stop over as we are about to begin in a few meters the steepest climb…..the Cardiac Hill. The goal is to climb the hill without getting off from the Mt bike. So my buddies told us “galit galit muna tayo ha”. Then we begin the climb.  Man, the hill is really steep, I saw four bikers ahead of us stopped at the middle, took some rest and walked  pushing their bikes up. Mark and Ed were old time bikers and had a lot of times gone to that route and its nothing to them. I was the third to conquer the hill and Zaldy gave up after finishing a quarter of that climb. It was a stop over again while waiting for Zaldy to reach our location.  After a few minutes with Zaldy resting, we proceeded going to the next stop. It was the bukohan or coconut store where we will have fresh buko while relaxing. The route was muddy but not much. This went through til we reach the buko stop where we had fresh buko. The next trails were not easy as they were really deep mud and so slippery. There were downhills and uphills and there were parts that we need a real good balancing especially when we entered the coffee trails. The greatest challenge is to stay up in your bike cruising the muddy trails. We often go stop and go to clear up the accumulated mud from our bike tires. There were even portions of the trail that is not bikeable so we really need to get off from our bikes to hike as our trail shoes goes deep down the mud.  Along the bike trails were fellow bikers, some pushing their bikes as we overtook them. The overall distance we biked was 27.4KM and our bikes were really super dirty after the ride. I even had 2 spokes damaged on my rear wheels maybe because of the super muddy trail.

Below are some of the pictures we had during the trail biking…

The following day May 2 Saturday, I had a long road bike ride…….81KM in the morning and went to splash island with my whole family til 6pm. With those two day hard effort bike rides and swimming…..I guess I have to do my southern race at ATC for May 3 as my recovery run…….

Love For Shooting….Now Love For Running

April 30, 2009 by runner45

Today as the weather restricted me to go out and visit my projects. I placed myself under house arrest and work from home via internet. I  easily got bored sitting down and throwing email reply to inquiries so i decided to do something that will surely make my day pass….. Fix my storage room. As I pulled out my things from the storage room and rack them up out, I sorted them out and place them in their designated locations and do my 5S.  I grouped items related to shooting and running. As I went on picking them up, something went on in my mind and I started taking photos of my gears.

That is Shooting gears Vs. Running Gears….

Below is the picture of my four active bags. Three of which were Range bags / Box that I used for the three shooting divisions that I play (Single Stack Standard Division , Hi capacity Standard Division and Revolver Division), and the other is my running bag.

shooting-bags-and-running-bag1

shooting-bags-and-running-bag-22

These are my active bags : Revolver Range Tote ;  Single Stack Range Bag ; Hi Cap Standard Range Bag and my Roadrunner Bag for running.

SHOOTING AND RUNNING : HIT RATE VS. PR

Shooting same as running tackles  time. We hear most shooters as they finished the course of fire ask “What is your time? ” Runners just the same ask for PRs. The difference in shooting is the outcome or overall result does not rely on time alone but by the Hit Rate which is the factor of Power , Speed and accuracy. A shooter can really be fast in tackling a course of fire but the question is , was he able to get good scores (alpha scores) in course? He might have missed shots that corresponds to a minus points.

SHOOTING GEARS : RUNNING GEARS

A. SHOOTING GEARS

Below are my Rigs for the the three divisions I am playing.

4-division-shooting-rigs1

These four rigs are for the following:

1. The first is for an SW625 caliber 45 revolver which I am currently using in the revolver division.

2. This second rig is for a SW686 caliber 357 revolver which earned a lot of respect when I first shifted from pistol to revolver.

3. The two remaining rigs are for standard division.  The third is for a single stack 45 caliber and the last is for the hicap division for a Para STI AET Ultimatch 40 caliber and a SV Infinity 40 caliber pistol.

Did you notice something in the picture? The revolver rigs are for right handed person and the pistol rigs are for left handed. Why??  I was born left handed but grew up ambidextrous. Revolver shooting is a lot different from pistol shooting, ( pistol has very little trigger slack compared to revolver that has a very long trigger pull) so for me not to mess up the muscle memory developed in years by my left hand for pistol, I  designated my right hand for the revolver. It was not easy but after rigid training and consistency, I was able to develop an equal skill and speed for my revolver hand. So at any time I want to compete in the two different division, revolver or pistol, I can easily tune up myself for the game without any hassle.

Below are close up pictures of my revolver and pistol rigs bearing my seal.

Interval of shot 1 to shot 2 etc  and this is called split , traverse time or the time elapsed when moving from one shooting position to another, draw time or how fast you draw your gun from the holster and fire , and total time finishing a course of fire….

I guess I would need the help of Pojie aka Mar to help me as I take his picture soon to show this in my next post……

Thanks…..
